Symbolic Reproduction:The Cultural Practice Logic of Forging a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation
The essence of the cultural practice of forging a strong sense of community for the Chi-nese nation highlights the symbolic processes in-volved in constructing subject identities.Acting as symbolic representations within the cultural sphere, the practical logic of symbolic reproduction can illustrate the cultural practice in which symbol-ic power influences the material relations between subjects and objects, thereby establishing social ties. The production, communication, and con-sumption of culture not only constitute the charac-teristic pattern of cultural practice but also perme-ate the entire spectrum of its emergence and devel-opment.Cultural practice can be seen as objective cultural activities and psychological productions, presenting symbolic dimensions in the process of shaping both cultural history and reality.Based on Marxist discourse on the process of commodity production and reproduction, and draw-ing on Bourdieu's theoretical perspective on cultur-al practice, the logic of symbolic reproduction in cultural practices points to the cultural practice ac-tivities in which symbolic symbols shape subject i-dentities through the technique of cultural identity construction of"production-dissemination-con-sumption-reproduction".First of all,as carriers of cultural meaning, symbolic symbols illustrate"cultural meaning symbol production"through the cultural meaning-making processes.Secondly, these symbols normally enter the field of cultural communication through circulation, imbuing sym-bolic cultural values and delineating relationships among"symbolic interaction among meaning sub-jects".Thirdly,through the code game of identi-ty,symbolic meanings may deepen the identity so-lidification of symbolic meaning in symbol con-sumption which is represented by considerations of"symbolic meaning reconstruction"rooted in inter-ests.Finally,this study also finds that through the practice of symbolic meaning and cultural repre-sentation,the value consciousness of the same kind of group is brought about, forming new cul-tural symbols. In fact, symbolic symbols have constructed e-motional solidarity, shaped shared values,cultivat-ed mutual interests, and solidified common goals through processes such as meaning production, symbol transmission, cultural consumption, and educational reproduction. What is more, they have demonstrated to embody the community concept of"sharing weal and woe, sharing honor and shame, sharing life and death, and sharing destiny"of the Chinese nation. This cultural construct arguably points to the logic of cultural practice that symboli-zes reproduction and thereby has been creating a strong sense of the Chinese nation as one communi-ty.In other words, the symbolic reproduction of the Chinese nation's community consciousness con-ceivably is reflected in the way the Chinese com-munity perceives the community concept of"sha-ring weal and woe, sharing honor and shame,sha-ring life and death, sharing destiny".In addition, the symbol has been serving as a value measure and boundary for the interpretation of the cultural identity of ethnic members. It has been acting as a cultural link connecting individuals and the com-munity,providing emotional support, value orien-tation,interest sharing, and a common purpose for the Chinese nation while maintaining certain inter-nal differences. Therefore, the establishment of the cultural identity of ethnic members has been tied to the cultural identity practice of the Chinese nation-al community, which is perpetuated through cultur-al exchange and integration symbolizing interac-tion.Through reproduction and creation of a cul-tural meaning system,it fundamentally arouses the community members'expectation and recognition of the nation-state,and plays an educational role in integrating a common value consciousness, and fi-nally"contributes to the vitality of both the nation and its individuals"in the specific interests.
