Optimizing Three-Dimensional Metrics:Shared Cognition,Shared Emotion, and Co-Behavior—the Development of a Psychological Scale for Chinese National Community Consciousness
This study considers developing a psychological scale of Chinese national community consciousness as an important foundation for empir-ical investigations into the influencing factors and fostering paths of a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation. However, current psychologi-cal scales of the Chinese national community con-sciousness only reflect limitations in their scope, hindering a comprehensive presentation of the sense of community for the Chinese nation. In this study,we first reviewed studies related to the con-cept,structure,and perspective surrounding the notion of a strong sense of community for the Chi-nese nation, and evaluated the existing related scales. Then, based on the Marxist National theory, this study attempts to explore the psychological im-plications of the Chinese national community con-sciousness.Through a review of existing research literature and policy documents,it proposes an op-erational definition:The Chinese national commu-nity consciousness refers to a psychological reflec-tion among the 56 ethnic groups living and produ-cing together on the land of China, embracing a collective identification with the Chinese national community. Its psychological structure consists of three core dimensions:Cognition, emotion, and behavior.Scientifically, this study adopted a 15-i-tem formal scale,to examine both the correlation validity of the psychological scale of Chinese na-tional community consciousness developed in this study and the calibration scale.Careful reading re-liability testing and validity assessments ensure the dependability of this new scale.According to the content for exploration, the three dimensions in this study were identified:Common cognition, common emotion, and co-be-havior.Specifically,common cognition can be de-fined as a shared knowledge among compatriots from 56 ethnic groups about the history, culture, interests, and essence of the Chinese nation.Com-mon emotion can be described as commonly held feelings of affection, warmth, happiness, and pride that these compatriots of the 56 ethnic groups have regarding the Chinese nation,Chinese cul-ture,the motherland, the Communist Party of Chi-na,and socialism with Chinese characteristics.Co-behavior lastly can be explained as collective actions of solidarity, cooperation, mutual assis-tance and love, and mutual development and pro-gress among the fellow citizens of 56 ethnic groups in the socialist society with Chinese characteristics under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.Findings show that the internal consistency reliability,split-half reliability, and retest reliabil-ity coefficient of the Chinese national community consciousness psychological scale compiled in this study are between 0.89 and 0.92,meeting the re-quirements of psychometrics.Additionally, the scale appears to demonstrate excellent structural fit and a well-constructed framework.Compared with the calibration scale, the Chinese national commu-nity consciousness psychological scale compiled in this study is also found to be consistent with multi-angle and multi-level understandings of the concept of the strong sense of community for the Chinese nation within the Chinese academic community. Moreover,it aligns with relevant constitutional pro-visions,offering a clearer structure, more complete content, and higher theoretical integrity. In sum,it can be concluded that it achieves a better psy-chological measurement for the Chinese national community consciousness and that it holds promise for future research applications.
