Comprehensively Understanding the Major Theoretical Innovation of Forging a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation from the Perspective of"Two Combinations"
The concept of the"Two Combina-tions"refers to an integration of Marxist principles with China's concrete reality as well as its excellent traditional culture.This study argues that the theo-ry of"fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation"is a model of the"Two Combina-tions".Breaking it down,the"first combination"can be defined as a scientific analysis of the"Chi-nese concrete reality"and the region's 5,000-year history of communication,interaction,and in-tegration,leading to the establishment of the Chi-nese nation,viewed through the lenses of dialecti-cal and historical materialism,particularly from the worldview and methodology of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.This theory has clarified a scientific ba-sis and intrinsic value of forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation,explained mate-rial and objective realities underpinning the com-munity of the Chinese nation,and laid a solid the-oretical foundation for a coherent perspective on the state,history,country,culture,and religion.It represents a significant theoretical innovation while avoiding a triple dilemma:Firstly,starting from the materialist view of history,it insists on the first nature of social existence to circumvent ideal-istic interpretations of the history of community the-ories.Secondly,it scientifically reveals the histori-cal facts of the cultural integration,economic inter-dependence,and emotional familiarity among all ethnic groups in China,to prevent focusing solely on dissimilarities and not commonalities.Thirdly,it conceivably clarifies the subjectivity,power source,and value interest of the development of the community of the Chinese nation,to decidedly avoid the dilemma of"serving for the minority".The"second combination"can be described by a"high degree of compatibility"between Marx-ist principles and excellent traditional Chinese cul-ture,enhancing the latter's vitality and charm.To illustrate,this combination deeply outlines the dia-lectical relationship between"one"and"many",and it's reasonable to assume this has profoundly influenced the evolution of traditional Chinese phi-losophy as well as a remarkable continuity and uni-ty of Chinese civilization:It apparently has served as a basic logical framework that has infused the formation and development of various ethnic groups.Secondly,it evidently has given full play to the cohesive role of"pluralism and harmony".This culture of harmony has promoted the formation and development of the Chinese nation,nurtured the outstanding innovation,inclusiveness,and peacefulness of Chinese civilization,and has been playing a unifying role amidst the struggles of all ethnic groups in China,fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.Thirdly,it has scientifically expounded the"people-oriented"subjectivity of excellent traditional Chinese cul-ture,highlighting the realistic ideal personality of"self-cultivation aimed at achieving the ultimate goals of peace under heaven",integrating the indi-vidual with society,the state,the nation,and all of humanity.This integration is currently manifes-ted in the"Four Shared"principles within the context of fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.In short,forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation can be viewed as a novel contribution to the theoretical development of his-torical materialism in the 21st century,serving as a model of the"Two Combinations".And this sig-nificant theoretical innovation should be thoroughly understood from the perspective of the"Two Com-binations".
