Cultural Philosophical Origin of Chinese and Western Community Concepts and Their Contemporary Implications
Human society emerges in the form of a"community";however,based on their different historical development,the two civilizations of China and the West differ significantly in their overall views and fundamental perspectives on the"community".The Western concept of community was initially associated with religious beliefs,and later evolved into a view of community with the spirit of contract as its core in its rationalist advancement.In contrast,The Chinese concept of community was born out of the two-way interaction between the"central plains"and the"peripheral regions",and"unity"and"harmony"were the basic ideas of community development.After thousands of years of integration of multiple sources,a community view of Chinese civilization with the spirit of harmony as its core has been formed.These two heterogeneous views of community determine that there is bound to be a huge cognitive gap between China and the West in addressing the issue of building a community with a shared future for mankind.For this reason,by examining the cultural philosophical origin of the community view,we can clearly penetrate the inherent differences in the historical generation of the Chinese and Western communities,reveal the wisdom of the existence of"community",grasp the"rational core"of the Chinese and Western community concepts from the theoretical perspective.In this way,we also may observe their similarities and differences and hope to realize the common understanding,laying the foundation of cultural identity for promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
