Ritual Time Construction and Order of Social Life of the Mujipo of the Yi People in Southern Yunnan
This paper attempts to apply the theory of temporal sociality, which emphasizes the inter-construction of time and rituals by French ethnologist and sociologist Émile Durkheim and related scholars,to make a preliminary exploration of the ritual time construction and order of social life of the Mujipo of the Yi people in Southern Yunnan. The Mujipo people construct a unique chronological order of days based on the twelve phases of the solar calendar, headed by the day of the rooster, which contains the idea of the"double"as life-creating and completeness.Through a systematic review of the rituals of the annual festival, the author finds that the time and rituals in the Mujipo people's annual festival are not only mutually constructed, but represent the order of social life. With the development of the local economy and society, the ceremonies held at key moments in the Mujipo people's ritual time highlight the starting point of the order of social life, aiming to achieve the purpose of maintaining social cohesion and harmony.
