National Integration in Canada in the Post-Multiculturalism Era:Concepts,Approaches and Prospects
The issue of national integration in Canada has accompanied the historical development process of the country. In the post-multiculturalism era,Canada's national integration has undergone obvious changes in both concepts and approaches. In concepts,"banal nationalism"has been employed to adjust multiculturalism;in approaches, while integrating new immigrants, aborigines, and French Quebecers with different strategies,Canada has also attempted to build and strengthen national commonalities by developing new national narratives and discourses, designing and redefining national symbols, and imbuing them with new meanings, all in an effort to promote national integration.Although Quebec separatism remains an important issue to be concerned about in the long run, given Canada's complex historical and current conditions, its achievements, experiences and challenges in national integration efforts are worth observing, learning from, and reflecting upon by other multi-ethnic countries.
