A Study on the Formation of the CPCs Discourse System on the"Chinese Nation"(1949-1965)
Based on the keyword research method,a quantitative analysis of the People's Daily database and the Party's key documents reveals that the CPC's use of the term"Chinese nation"from the founding of New China to 1965 was generally infrequent, but con-tinuous and without breaks.During this period, around the term"Chinese nation",the CPC formed a discourse system of"Chinese nation"with an internal logical structure in multiple contexts. In the context of external relations, the discourse of"imperialism and the Chinese nation"mainly described the competitive and antagonistic relationship between the Chinese nation and others, while the discourse of"the Chinese nation and other nations"described the cooperative relationship between the Chinese nation and others. In the context of the re-lationship between the CPC and the Chinese nation, the major contributions of the CPC to the Chinese nation were mainly explained through the logic of temporal comparison before and after the founding of the CPC,and the logic of horizontal comparison with other sub-jects.In the context of the relationship between all ethnic groups and the Chinese nation, the internal structural relationship of the Chinese nation was mainly described around the dis-courses of"the big family of the Chinese nation"and"all ethnic groups are part of the Chi-nese nation",to counter the discourses of ethnic division and to enhance the identity of the people of all ethnic groups to community for the Chinese nation. The CPC also shaped the self-identity of the Chinese nation through discourse with strong positive connotations,in-tending to raise the people's self-esteem and self-confidence to the Chinese nation and strengthen their self-awareness of inheriting and carrying forward the fine traditions of the Chinese nation.
