Rethinking and Criticizing Art in the Context of Technological Reproduction:From Benjamin to Baudrillard
With the development of the theory of technique as the warp and the representation of images un-der the transmutation of reproduction technology as the woof, the study of artistic vision becomes a momen-tum.Benjamin,in the age of the camera, opened up the academic discourse of the"age of mechanical re-production",while the relationship of technique is further envisioned in Baudrillard's framework of the dis-cussion of technological objects, symbolism, and the order of differentiation. The issue of technical repro-duction of art is related to the dimensions of technological foundation, artistic qualities, and artistic subject, etc. In the transition of the discourse from Benjamin to Baudrillard, from mechanical reproduction to mimic-ry,people's worship of aura is quietly changed into technological fetishism, and the dynamic modern subject is replaced by technologically predetermined subject.Benjamin's and Baudrillard's ideas about technical re-production reveal the reality that contemporary art is experiencing an accelerated turn of image, depicting the reconfiguration of human forms of perception, ways of thinking, sensing and aesthetics by the pictorialization of art.Nevertheless, there are still logic cracks such as that in the two poles split split between the way of materialization and aesthetic connotation,in the misunderstanding of the relationship between technology itself and the aesthetic subject, and in the adoption of negative and fatalistic strategies towards the existence of art.
