Effects of Urbanization Development on the Collapse of County-based High Schools:A Study of Key Secondary School Policy Adjustment
As the"flagship"of county-based education, academic high schools work as an important ladder for students to realize the leap of social stratum. But,with the vibrant development of urbanization and the alienated implementation of key secondary school policies,county-based high schools come to the point of collapse with continuous loss of high-quality students, teachers drain, and enrollment decline. This study used the high school education resource allocation data of cities and counties in 31 provinces in China from 2012 to 2022 to empirically explore the impact of urbanization on the collapse and the regulation effect of policy alienation in key secondary schools, employing the entropy weight method for the collapse degree to construct the benchmark model and the regulation effect model. The results showed that the improvement of regional urbanization intensifies the collapse of the county-based high schools, that the policy alienation of key secondary schools dubbed the"super schools"plays a significant regulatory role in the interaction between urbanization and school collapse, and that this regulatory effect is particularly significant in the central and eastern regions of China.
