Analysis of the Three CPC-related Materials from Shanghai Public Concession Police Archives Housed at the National Archives of the United States
The archives of the Police Department of the Shanghai Municipal Council, which are now stored in the National Archives of the United States, contain the original work records of the intelligence department of Shanghai Police Department from 1916 to 1941.These archives serve as the foundational material for the Shanghai Archives'"Police Daily"and"Police Intelligence",offering more direct historical value. The content related to the Communist Party of China in the archives mainly includes four parts,i.e.,the case records of the police investigation and arrest of CPC members, the collection and investigation of intelligence on the activities of the CPC,the records of the strike led by the CPC,and the special report on the development trend of the CPC.These archives are not only important materials for studying the revolutionary activities of the CPC in Shanghai from 1921 to 1936,but also precious materials for observing the Chinese revolution from the British perspective. The three reports reflecting the activities of the Bolsheviks and the early CCP in Shanghai reveal the important historiographic value of the archives.
