Survey on Bird and Mammal Diversity in the Jiangxi Fuliang Huangzihao Black Muntjac Provincial Nature Re-serve Based on Camera Traps
The Jiangxi Fuliang Huangzihao Black Muntjac Provincial Nature Reserve is located in the remaining vein of the Huaiyu Mountains, with rich biological resources. To grasp the background resources in the nature reserve and provide effective management measures,we deployed 278 camera traps for biodiversity monitoring from July 2018 to October 2022.We obtained totally 29 760 independent and valid photos during a total of 48 787 trap nights, including 17 719 of mam-mals,11 121 of birds, and 920 of other animals or human activities.Based on these photos,we totally identified 19 mam-mal species belonging to 11 families and 6 orders, including one national classes Ⅰ protected species:Muniacus crisifrons, and four national classes Ⅱ protected species:Macaca mulatta,Macaca thibetana,Prionailurus bengalensis,Capricornis milneedwardsii;and 30 bird species belonging to 12 families and 6 orders, including one national classes I protected spe-cies:Syrmaticus ellioti, and six national classes Ⅱ protected species:Lophura nycthemera,Pucrasia macrolopha,Garrulax poecilorhynchus,Leiothrix lutea,Pernis ptilorhynchus and Strix aluco.Among them, one species, namely Muntia-cus crisifrons,is listed as endangered species(EN)in the"Red List of Biodiversity in China",five species are listed as vulnerable species(VU),and there are other seven species listed as near threatened species(NT).Three species listed as vulnerable species(VU)and two species as near threatened species(NT)in the"IUCN Red List of Threatened Spe-cies".There are three species included in Appendix Ⅰ of the CITES Convention, and two species included in Appendix Ⅱ.Additionally, there are eight national endemic species(T).The species with highest relative abundance index(RAI)is Lophura nycthemera(RAI 32.58),followed by the Muntiacus reevesi(RAI 21.89)and Sus scrofa(RAI 10.15).The RAI values of all other species are below 3.The results reflect the resource status of birds and mammals in the Jiangxi Fu-liang Huangzihao Black Muntjac Provincial Nature Reserve, providing basic data for further planning and management of the reserve and long-term monitoring and protection of wild animals.
