The works of Rou Shi,a writer belonging to the Left-wing Writers'Alliance, are not only enlightening and revolutionary but also distinctly lyrical. When examining Rou Shi's whole works from a lyrical perspective,we find that his early work The Madman is imbued with the decadent lyricism color of the individualism trend of thought in the May 4th Movement;his mid-period work February reflects a contradictory lyricism that oscillates between a"lack of modernity"and attempts at"revolution";his later work A Slave Mother marks a transition from personal to class lyricism, highlighting revolutionary lyricism in its concern for the times and the nation.
