In ancient Greek mythology, the story of Deucalion is one of the most mentioned myths about human origin. This myth tells a prehistory of reproduction,in which the god Zeus launched a flood to destroy mankind and leave only one man and one woman to survive and reproduce human beings by themselves. This story is often regarded as the ancient Greek version of"Noah's Ark"because of its description of the great flood and the lonely boat drifting in the flood. Therefore,it is often included in the narrative tradition of"Great Flood".This article intends to discuss the relationship between the myth of Deucalion and the Western flood narrative tradition and re-understand the origin story of Deucalion from the framework of the ancient Greek origin myth itself.
