Early maritime navigation and cultures in coastal southern China,Taiwan,and Island Southeast Asia,6000-500 BCE
This article examines the history of the expansion of the ancient Austronesian language group,through the perspective of early navigation and cultural dispersal.The primary focus includes the Neolithic period along the South China coast of mainland China,Taiwan,the islands of Southeast Asia,western Micronesia,and the Iron Age circumnavigation of the South China Sea.The research timeline spans from 8,000 through 2,500 years ago.Drawing upon archaeological materials and limited historical documents,the study unveils the historical trajectory of Austronesian ancestors who,thousands of years ago,embarked on the blue seas,courageously sailing and conquering the oceanic expanses.
