Gangshang site is an important Dawenkou cultural site in central and southern Shandong Province. From November 2018 to May 2019,the Shandong Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted a comprehensive and systematic exploration of the site, which provided a clearer and deeper understanding of the site's scope and cultural layer accumulation status, the distribution of major relics, the overall settlement layout, functional zoning and diachronic evolution. The biggest achievement of this exploration is the discovery and confirmation of the Dawenkou Cultural city site with an area of nearly 400,000 square meters, which is the only Dawenkou cultural city site found in central and southern Shandong Province, and the largest Dawenkou cultural city site found in Haidai area so far. This discovery will provide a new breakthrough point for the study of regional social complexity.
