Cheng Te-Kun is the first generation of archaeologists in China.During his time studying at Yenching University and Harvard University,as well as obtaining his PhD in archaeology,he was aided and abetted by several eminent academics,such as Hong Ye and Gu Jiegang.Throughout his working at Xiamen University,the Museum of West China Union University,and Cambridge University,he produced several significant publications,designed numerous exhibitions with outstanding qualities,and his course also had a broad range of impact.His Archaeology in China is one of the most thorough general treatises on Chinese archaeology written in the English-speaking world in the 20th century.It is full of insightful perspectives and rich in content,has drawn comments from numerous academics,and has had a significant impact abroad.In the history of Chinese archaeology,more emphasis should be placed on the contribution of Cheng Te-Kun and Archaeology in China,since which made the promotion of Chinese culture abroad.
