Sizhou City ruins is located in Xuyi County,Jiangsu Province,which is the remains of the ancient Grand Canal City that was flooded as a whole during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty.In 2004,after archaeological exploration,the location of the inner and outer walls of the ancient Sizhou City,the method of construction of the walls,the four directions of the city site,the specific direction,the location of the city gates and the general structure of the city gates,the location of the main roads in the city,the ancient Bian River,and the location of some of the important architectural zones have basically been determined.It provides academic value for understanding the layout,planning and construction style of the ancient Sizhou City,and further developing the archaeological excavation and protection of the Sizhou City site.The ceramic pieces from different kilns such as Yaozhou-type,Dingzhou-type,Longquan-type and Jingdezhen-type,etc that found in the archaeology provide clues to the understanding of Sizhou City as a central city in the combination of Tongji canal and Huai River in Tang and Song dynasties,as well as the foreign trade and commerce.
