Comparison of serum levels of IL-2,IL-6,TNF-α,HMGB1,and TLR4 in patients with epi-lepsy of varying severity
Aim To compare the levels of serum interleukin-2(IL-2),interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),high mobility group box 1 protein(HMGB1),and Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)in patients with epilepsy of different severity. Methods 70 patients with epilepsy were selected as the epilepsy group, and were divided into different groups according to different seizure conditions and different degrees of abnormal EEG.Another 70 healthy volunteers were selected as the control group. The levels of IL-2,IL-6,TNF-α,HMGB1,and TLR4 were compared among the groups. Results The levels of IL-6,TNF-α,HMGB1,and TLR4 in the epilepsy group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The levels of IL-6,TNF-α,HMGB1,and TLR4 in patients with severe, moderate, and mild abnormalities were decreased in turn(P<0.05).There was no sig-nificant difference in the levels of IL-2,IL-6,TNF-α,HMGB1,and TLR4 between patients with generalized seizures and those with partial seizures(P>0.05).Conclusion The levels of serum IL-6,TNF-α,HMGB1,and TLR4 in patients with epilepsy are sig-nificantly up-regulated,and are related to the degree of abnormal EEG.This can provide some clinical reference value for the diagno-sis and prognosis evaluation of epilepsy.
