The Hissing of the"Margins":Political Mobilization in the Newspapers of Off-Island Qiongya Students in the 1920s and 1930s
During the 1920s and 1930s,the student press, which was spawned by and deeply in-volved in the political movement, flourished exceptionally well, and compared with the"center"press founded by upper-class students, which received much attention from the academic community,the"mar-ginal"press founded by lower-class students received significantly less attention. As a sample of margin-al Qiongya students'newspapers,in the revolutionary mobilization in response to the theme of the times in a specific historical period, they tried to stimulate the political consciousness of the people in their hometowns and to awaken the young Qiongya people outside the island who had the advantage of revolu-tionary zeal and cultural capital. The content of the newspapers'discourse was focused on changing the traditional political pattern of the island, advocating for the liberation of women's self-awakening,and o-verthrowing the church schools that boasted of saving the lives of the people and patriotism, and the textu-al discourse techniques were mainly call-outs and satire with strong mobilizing effects. The discursive techniques of the texts were based on strong mobilizing effects, such as appeals and satire.Examining the mobilizing texts of the Qiongya student newspaper from the perspective of political propaganda,it is possi-ble to see and examine the revolutionary ideology and historical contribution of the marginalized student group, which was different from the center during the Republican period.
