The Impact of Rural Households' E-commerce Participation on Consumption Upgrading:The Mediating Role of Female Labor Participation
The development of rural e-commerce has become an important way to promote the sustainable in-crease of farmers' income,release the potential of rural domestic demand and promote the comprehensive revi-talization of rural areas.This paper adopts the tracking survey data of rural households from 2014 to 2020,and uses the participation of rural households in e-commerce as a quasi-natural experiment to empirically test the impact of rural households' e-commerce participation on consumption upgrading and to explore the mediating role and heterogeneity of rural female labor supply.The study finds that:the participation of rural households in e-commerce can significantly promote the upgrading of household consumption and promote the upgrading of household consumption by improving the labor supply of rural women;for the families with more traditional gender concepts and the families of rural women with high education,long non-farm working hours,strong a-bility and high income,the promotion effect of farmers' e-commerce participation on consumption upgrading is more obvious.Therefore,suggestions are put forward to vigorously develop the construction of digital country-side,improve the rural e-commerce ecology and empower rural women to participate in e-commerce.
