The Influence of Migrant Workers'Language Ability on Urban Integration:A Case Study of Migrant Workers in Guangzhou
Based on the questionnaire survey and in-depth interview,this paper examines the language ability of migrant workers in Guangzhou and its neighboring areas and its impact on urban integration.The study finds that the majority of migrant workers have a high level of Mandarin,a low level of work site dialect,and a low willingness to learn work site dialect.There are differences in the ways of promoting migrant workers'integra-tion into cities between Mandarin and worksite dialect:Mandarin has the value as a tool to ensure communica-tion and help improve the income of migrant workers;work site dialect plays a small role in promoting econom-ic adaptation,but it has the dual value of communication and cultural identity,which helps the emotional ex-change between migrant workers and local residents at the social level,enhances their liking for the city,and thus promotes their integration into the city.
