Japanese Observation and Perception of the Eighth Route Army's Publicity Efforts in North China during the War of Resistance
During the War of Resistance against Japanese Invasion, the publicity efforts of the Commu-nist Party of China and the Eighth Route Army played a crucial historical role alongside guerrilla tac-tics.The Japanese army's observations, perceptions, and the influence of these efforts in occupied North China are issues worthy of further investigation. In the early stages of the war,the Japanese forces attempted to force Chinese surrender through military power, leading to a dismissive attitude to-ward the Eighth Route Army and little awareness of Chinese publicity efforts. However, from the latter half of 1938 onwards, this began to change, prompting the Japanese forces in North China to adopt corresponding countermeasures.Despite this shift, the Japanese military failed to give sufficient atten-tion to propaganda across their forces, remaining trapped in their illusion of military conquest, and ultimately lost in the"battle of ideas",leading to their eventual failure.
