Wang Zengqi's interpretation of Shen Congwen is Wang's important literary activi-ty in the new period,among which the research on cultural relics in the latter half of Shen Con-gwen's life is one of the most important aspects of his interpretation.Wang Zengqi summarizes Shen Congwen's research with the word"lyric archaeology",which emphasizes"lyricism"more and covers two meanings.Firstly,Shen Congwen's writings on the research and his literary cre-ation show a similar lyrical style in the theme,language and other aspects.Secondly,in Wang Zengqi's opinion,Shen Congwen's interest in the research on cultural relics is actually his appre-ciation of the"people"and his deep love for Chinese history,culture and the Chinese nation.On this level,the meaning of"lyric archaeology"is similar to the concept of"affection"(youqing)put forward by Shen Congwen in the 1950s.However,Wang Zengqi deliberately covers and puts aside the side of"utilitarianism"(shigong)of Shen Congwen's research on cultural relics in his interpre-tation,which is closely related to his literary creation practice in the first thirty years of the People's Republic of China and the writing strategy of his interpretation.
