The Confessions of a Bourgeois traces back to the traumatic events of Malloy's life in 1914.It was the interpretation and naming of the event that made Malloy realize the rootlessness within himself,and it was this rootlessness that led him to rebel against his family and the civic class he belonged to.Malloy constructed his spiritual family through reading and writing,taking writing as the subject of rootless events and assuming the mission of the world.Writing recorded the decline of the civil class and achieved Malloy's self-redemption.
