Revisiting"Critical Incident":An Exploration of a Methodology for Journalism Studies
News production is an event-driven activity,and some events not only leave a deep mark on political,social and cultural changes,but also become"critical incidents"that influence the development of journalism.This paper revisits the introduction and use of the journalistic concept of"critical incident",tries to develop a research strategy using"critical incident"as a methodology which aims to strengthen the theoretical meaning of"critical incident"in journalism studies.On the one hand,it deepens the understanding of the nature of"critical incident";on the other hand,it in-novates the research methods and approaches of"critical incident",and considers"critical inci-dent"in multiple dimensions such as process,structure,and relationship.The"critical incident"is a good perspective on the changes in journalism,but as a methodology for journalism studies,it is necessary to better grasp the connotation,positioning,and types of"critical incident",and to ex-plore appropriate theoretical tools and research methods,so that this way of thinking about"critical incident"can be better applied to empirical research.
