On the Genesis History and the Modernity Approach of Chinese Film"Director"Concept
In the Chinese film culture industry and knowledge system,"director"(Dao Yan)is an extremely important existence.The"director"concept,which is used to refer to the film direc-torial system,the director subject,the directorial methodology,etc.,is a foreign term that was translated into China by the filmmaker Lu Jie in 1921.The timely emergence of the"director"con-cept quickly led the early Chinese film directorial system,consciousness,theory and methodology from spontaneity to self-awareness.In the process of widespread dissemination and application,the"director"was given more connotations to the early Chinese view of Ying Xi and directorial experi-ence,also divided into a view of"directing'acting'"(dao"yan")which emphasized theatrical performance and a view of"directing'film'"(dao"ying")which emphasized cinematic language.In the over-one-century history up and downs,the sense of Chinese film directing,which was the re-sult of the intertwining of these two tendencies,sustained evolvement to date,"director"(Dao Yan)thus became a rather Sinicized concept.The history of the genesis of Chinese film"director"con-cept is an epitome of Chinese-characterization of film in the past hundred years.The director concept has unique modernity approaches:the innovation of information technology accompanies the modern-ization of the role of the director;the change of production methods accompanies the modernization of the director's competence;the diversity of narrative methods accompanies the modernization of the director's knowledge;the evolution of the film industry accompanies the modernization of the direc-tor's status.
