Constructing Legitimacy:Western Zhou Mimicry in the Posthumous Names of Emperors Cheng,Kang and Mu of the Eastern Jin Dynasty
The posthumous title of the three emperors of Cheng Kang Mu in the Eastern Jin Dynasty is the same as the posthumous title of the three kings of Cheng Kang Mu in the Western Zhou Dynasty, which is rare among the emperors of posthumous title in the Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties. The three kings of Cheng Kang Mu were the undoubted co-masters of the world at that time.Posthumous title, the emperor of the Eastern Jin Dy-nasty,probably imitated the"story"of the Western Zhou Dynasty to build legitimacy and legitimacy. This con-struction is divided into two aspects.Externally, the Eastern Jin Dynasty constructed the world pattern with the Eastern Jin Dynasty as the Chinese orthodox under the Hua-Yi system by conferring titles, giving posthumous titles and accepting tributes.Internally,Sima's royal family and gentry worked together to shape the political pattern of"sharing the world"between imperial power and gentry by using the similarities between the Western Zhou Dynasty princes guarding the Zhou royal family and the gentry bureaucrats assisting the Eastern Jin royal family. Therefore, the selection of posthumous title of the three emperors of Cheng Kang Mu in the Eastern Jin Dynasty is the result of the joint efforts of many parties.
