Doctors'Trust in Patients and the Primary Influencing Factors:A Perspective Based on Institutionalism and Culturalism
Doctor-patient trust is a mutual trust relationship between doctors and patients. In the past, more attention has been given to patient trust in doctors, neglecting the trust that doctors have in patients.Based on a sampling survey of 37 hospitals across 8 administrative districts in Shenzhen, this article presents the current status of physician trust and examines the main influencing factors from the perspectives of institutionalism and culturalism. The study found that physician trust is at a moderately low level. From the institutional perspective, doctors in public hospitals and higher-tier hospitals exhibit higher levels of trust in patients.Average daily working hours and professional burnout have significant negative effects on physician trust. From the cultural perspective, general interpersonal trust and trust in media reports on doctor-patient relationships can promote physician trust.Open-mindedness and values of self-transcendence also have positive effects on physician trust. These findings suggest that improving physician trust requires attention to both institu-tional factors, such as reducing workload and enhancing professional efficacy, and the long-term accumulation of cul-tural factors, such as raising overall social trust levels and advocating positive cultural values.
