The Marriage Alliances of Zhu,Xu,Chang, and Guo in Relation to the Jingnan Campaign
The marriage alliances between the Zhu Yuanzhang family and the families of Xu Da,Chang Yuchun, and Guo Ying had already begun before the establishment of the Ming Dynasty. After the founding of the Ming Dynasty, these group-style alliances expanded, becoming the core of marital connections between the imperial family and distin-guished officials. With the death of the Crown Prince Yiwen and his consort, there was a significant shift in the power dy-namics within the group, ultimately leading to the Jingnan Campaign, which resulted in a change in imperial authority.Following the success of the Jingnan Campaign,Zhu Di strengthened marital ties with the families of Xu Da and Guo Ying, eliminating the influence of the Chang Yuchun faction within the group. The Zhu,Xu,Chang, and Guo marriage al-liances transformed into the Zhu,Xu,and Guo marital alliances.Subsequently, marital alliances between the imperial family and the families of Xu Da and Guo Ying became increasingly difficult to sustain.During the Xuande era,the regu-lations governing imperial family marriages became stricter, and the Zhu,Xu,Chang, and Guo marriage alliances, which had influenced the political landscape of the early Ming Dynasty for over sixty years, gradually faded into history.
