Supporting Chinese Modernization:Policy Narratives of Independent Knowledge of Chinese Gerontology
The large scale of the elderly population,the rapid growth rate of the proportion of the elderly popula-tion,and the significant risk of an unprecedented aging society constitute the new national population situation as China comprehensively advances on the new journey of Chinese modernization.Dealing with the major changes brought by the rapidly aging society and achieving transcendence in Chinese modernization are becoming strategic goals and disciplin-ary consciousness in constructing an independent knowledge system in gerontology in China.Reflecting on the fact that Western gerontology has always developed alongside geriatric medicine,focusing on the theoretical connotations of age/aging/the elderly,it never sparked a revolution in aging society or a major transformation in elderly social welfare in dis-ciplinary practice.Since the founding of New China,while Chinese gerontology has been accepting,following,and learning from Western gerontology,it has been promoting the construction of an independent knowledge system through policy narratives.Under the narrative goal of telling the Chinese story with a new life political perspective,Chinese ger-ontology has constructed a policy narrative framework that supports Chinese modernization,is multi-level and interdisci-plinary,covering all of society,all age groups,and the entire lifecycle.This framework contributes to knowledge produc-tion for national strategies to address aging and Chinese innovation,thus making contributions to national rejuvenation and strengthening the nation.
