The Development of Tang Poetry in Eastern Zhejiang during the Early-Mid Tang Dynasty
The development of Tang Poetry in Eastern Zhejiang during the early-mid Tang Dynasty has some unique characteristics.Many literati sought refuge or roamed to Eastern Zhejiang,and there were also many literati resid-ing in the region.Among the literati who traveled to Eastern Zhejiang,many wandered outside their official duties.Dur-ing the first 50 years of the early-mid Tang Dynasty,the total number of poets in Eastern Zhejiang was almost equivalent to that of the prosperous early Tang period spanning 138 years.However,the total number of poems left by poets in East-em Zhejiang exceeded the total of 138 years in the prosperous early Tang period.Among the poets who wrote poems about Eastern Zhejiang,the majority had traveled to the region,far surpassing those in the prosperous early Tang period.The reasons for this were related to the geographical location,landscape,economic development,and transportation of Eastern Zhejiang.However,what attracted literati most was the cultural atmosphere that had been formed in Eastern Zhe-jiang since the Eastern Jin Dynasty,especially the atmosphere of literati culture.Just after experiencing wars and fleeing southward for refuge and cultural migration,it easily evoked people's historical memories and formed a new literati at-mosphere,attracting a large number of literati to visit.
