The Formation of the Prose-Poetry Hybrid Structure and the Narrative Personalization of Poetry in Ming Dynasty Novels
The incorporation of various types of novels into written form since the Tang and Song dynasties facili-tated the formation of the prose-poetry hybrid structure. This phenomenon became more prominent and evolved during the Yuan and Ming periods, leading to the unique structural form of Ming Dynasty novels, which enhanced and opti-mized their poetic narrative functions. The poetry embedded in Ming Dynasty novels served multiple narrative functions, but it never dominated the narrative;without the dominant prose narrative, the poetic narrative would lose its foundation.Particularly during the stage of increased integration of poetry into novels, the narrative function of poetry was not well utilized;instead,it created various issues due to being non-essential components. However, with the further development of Ming Dynasty novels into written form, the incorporated poetry entered a phase of structural integration. As the struc-tural integration of poetry increased, its poetic narrative became fully embedded within the prose.Structural integration refers to the incorporation of poetry seamlessly into the novel's storyline, deeply merging with the prose to embellish and support the narrative.
