Local Innovation Network Integration and the Linkage between Chinese and Foreign Value Chains
In recent years, although the accelerated FDI outflow has negatively impacted the linkage between Chi-nese and foreign value chains, other foreign investments have,at the same time, revitalized the domestic market by accel-erating integration through local innovation networks.Based on the WIOD World Input-Output Tables(2000-2014)and Chinese patent data, this paper examines the impact of foreign investment integration into local innovation networks on the linkage between Chinese and foreign value chains within the manufacturing sector. The findings indicate that integra-tion into local innovation networks helps strengthen these linkages.Mechanistically, this integration positively influences the linkage between Chinese and foreign value chains by stabilizing foreign investment, enhancing value chain position-ing,and promoting outward FDI.Additionally, the impact varies according to certain heterogeneous characteristics. This study offers valuable insights from a market perspective for China's efforts to stabilize trade and reinforce the linkage between Chinese and foreign value chains.
