A Comparative and Reflective Examination on the Philosophical Notion of"Nothing"between China and the West in the Perspective of Modernity
The issues of modernity, especially those related to nihilism, have posed numerous difficulties for the present era, which are intricately linked to the category, concept, and thought of"nothing"(nichts)in Western philosophy.Chinese philosophy also attaches great importance to the notion of"nothing",but its attitude differs from Western philosophy, displaying a certain affinity and adaptability. Therefore,a comparative analysis of the philosophical notion of"nothing"between China and the West at the levels of ontology, epistemology, and axiology reveals that"nothing"encompasses a dual meaning context of ei-ther negative emptiness or positive creative potential.A reflective examination on the philosophy of"nothing"is of great signifi-cance for overcoming the challenges brought by the issue of modernity.
