An Analysis of Ancient Egypt's Ethnic and Cultural Governance of Major Frontier Fortresses from the Old Kingdom to the New Kingdom:A Case Study of the Tombos Fortress
From the Old Kingdom to the New Kingdom,the major frontier fortresses in ancient Egypt continued to develop and expand.During the Middle Kingdom in particular,these fortifications were established largely to safeguard Egyptian inter-ests,eventually forming a network of strongholds.In response,Egyptian kings introduced a series of measures focusing on mili-tary governance,economic and trade systems,as well as ethnic and cultural integration.Taking the Tombos Fortress in southern Egypt as a case study,this article illustrates how the Egyptian kings exercised direct governance within a framework of ethnic and cultural policies,ultimately resulting in the"Egyptianization"of local inhabitants.
