Suitability Analysis of Lightning Disaster Prevention in the Central Urban Area of Hohhot
Research on lightning disaster prevention is an important basis for the construction of engineering and non-engineering facilities for lightning disaster prevention, urban and rural planning, and the development of key projects. It also provides scientific guidance for disaster prevention and reduction in society.Taking the economically developed central urban area of Hohhot in Inner Mongolia as an example, based on the lightning location data of Hohhot from 2014 to 2018,it was found that the annual number of lightning strikes of buildings was closely related to building heights and ground lighting density according to relevant requirements in Design Code for Protection of Struceures against Lighting(GB50057-2010).The countermeasures and suggestions for lightning protection and disaster reduction were also proposed based on building heights. The results indicated that most of the study area belonged to medium and low risk area, accounting for 85.97%of the total area. The suitable heights for general industrial buildings, residential buildings, office buildings, and other general civil buildings categorized as Class Ⅲ lightning protection buildings in low density,low-medium density, and medium density areas were calculated to be below 200 meters,143 meters, and 102 meters, respectively. For hazardous locations with fire risks and other important or densely populated public buildings,as well as provincial office buildings, the height should be controlled below 91 meters,65 meters, and 46 meters, respectively.Areas with medium or higher ground lighting density were mainly located in the central-eastern and some small western regions, accounting for 14.13%of the total study area. The suitable heights for general industrial buildings or residential and office buildings categorized as Class Ⅲlightning protection buildings in higher and high density areas were calculated to be below 83 meters and 72 meters, respectively. For hazardous locations with fire risks and other important or densely populated public buildings,as well as provincial office buildings, the height should be controlled below 46 meters and 33 meters, respectively. The results have significant guiding significance and practical application value for lightning disaster prevention research and plan formulation, rational utilization of resources, major engineering construction, financial investment and insurance, emergency management, and government policymaking.
