Study on the Mechanism of Low-Carbon Development in the Yellow River Basin Empowered by Digital Economy:Based on the Intermediary Perspective of Industrial Structure Optimization
The Yellow River Basin is a crucial energy and modern industrial hub in China, making low-carbon development in this region critical to achieving China's"dual carbon"goals.Using data from 2012 to 2021,this study empirically examines the impact of the digital economy on carbon reduction across nine provinces and regions in the Yellow River Basin, with industrial structure optimization as a mediator. The results reveal a significant U-shaped relationship between the digital economy and carbon reduction in the basin. The findings suggest that the digital economy drives industrial structure optimization, which,in turn, facilitates carbon emission reductions. This effect is particularly pronounced in the upstream provinces and regions. It is recommended to fully leverage regional comparative advantages, appropriately expand the scale of the digital economy, and foster deeper integration between the digital economy and the productive service sector.
