Apoptosis can be defined as a highly regulated cellular suicide program which is crucial for metazoan development. It has been proven that dysfunction of apoptosis can cause several diseases.Because of the role apoptosis plays in the development of cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and AIDS it has been the subject of intense research and scientific investigation. Although this has led to a better understanding of apoptosis, many details of its regulation or apoptotic phenotypes are still unclear. A simpler model was needed and found in yeast cells. The paper summarized apoptosis in yeast to promise to provide a better understanding of the genetics of apoptosis.
