COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF ELDERLY CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE PATIENTS IN A SINGLE CENTER UNDER TWO DIALYSIS METHODS
Objective The aim of this study is to examine the nutritional status of elderly patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)who are undergoing hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.Additionally, the study seeks to evaluate the impact of various dialysis modalities on the nutritional status of these patients, with the goal of enhancing interventions for malnutrition. Methods Utilizing questionnaires and the research data platform of Inner Mongolia Medical University Hospital,a study was conducted to evaluate the nutritional status of 144 elderly CKD patients undergoing dialysis between January and March 2023.Additionally,demographicand laboratory data were gathered to investigate the impact of various dialysis modalities on nutrient deficiencies. Results Among the 144 patients examined,111 were identified as being at risk of malnutrition, showing notable correlations with age(P<0.001)and dialysis method(P=0.021).Significant variations were observed in the impact of various di-alysis modalities on hemoglobin(P<0.001),phosphorus(P=0.015),and total cholesterol(P=0.005).Hemodialysis exerted a more pronounced impact on hemoglobin and phosphorus levels, whereas peritoneal dialysis demonstrated a greater influence on total cholesterol levels. Conclusions The occurrence of malnutrition in elderly chronic kidney disease(CKD)patients is signifi-cantly associated with age and the type of dialysis utilized. In order to enhance the nutritional well-being of these patients,it is imperative to introduce effective interventions that specifically target these factors.
