Objective To systematically evaluate the efficacy of oral traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in treating hyperuricemia(HUA).Methods Relevant randomized controlled trials(RCTs)on oral TCM treat-ment for HUA were searched in Wan-Fang Data,CNKI,VIP Data,PubMed,and Cochrane Library from January 2013 to January 2023.A total of 8 studies involving 642 patients were included, and Revman 5.4 was used for meta-analysis.Results The meta-analysis results showed that oral traditional Chinese medicine treatment for hyperuricemia had better results compared to western medicine alone in terms of blood uric acid concentration(I2=0%<50%,P=0.45)and uric acid-lowering efficacy[RR=1.13,95%CI(1.03,1.24),P=0.009].Combination therapy of traditional Chinese and Western medicine for hyperuricemia had better blood uric acid values(I2=52%>50%,P=0.1)and uric acid-lowering efficacy(I2=0%<50%,P=0.91)compared to Western medicine treatment alone. In addition, the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine treatment for hyperuricemia had statistically significant differences in creatinine values(I2=42%<50%,P=0.16),triglycerides[MD=-0.43,95%CI(-0.62,-0.24),P<0.00001],and total cholesterol[MD=-0.47,95%CI(-0.60,-0.34),P<0.00001],with its efficacy being better than that of Western medicine treatment alone. Conclusion Oral TCM treatment is more effective than Western medicine alone in reducing serum uric acid levels in patients with HUA.
