Objective:To investigate the effect of interpregnancy interval on gestational diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 5142 single pregnant women who were given birth in the First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College from January 1,2018 to September 30,2023 were retrospectively selected as the study objects. They were divided into 4 groups according to the interpregnancy interval:Group A(<2 years)373 cases, group B(2-5 years)1795 cases, group C(5-10 years)2078 cases, group D(≥10 years)896 cases. With reference to the standards recommended by the World Health Organization and group B as the reference group, logistic re-gression was used to adjust related confounders to calculate the risk of GDM in each group.Further stratified analysis was conducted according to the age of delivery(<35 years old,≥35 years old)to explore the effect of age on the relationship between interpregnancy interval and gestational diabetes mellitus. Results After adjusting for relevant confounders, there was an increased risk of GDM in group D(OR=1.712,95%CI 1.127-2.601,P=0.012)compared with group B.Stratified by age of delivery and adjusted for relevant confounders, the risk of GDM was increased in group C(OR=1.244,95%CI 1.042-1.644,P=0.035)and group D(OR=1.472,95%CI 1.174-2.225,P=0.041),compared with group B.The risk of GDM was increased in group C(OR=1.163,95%CI 1.023-1.870,P=0.047)and group D(OR=1.489,95%CI 1.087-3.777,P=0.033).Conclusion Long interpregnancy interval(≥10 years)was an independent risk factor for gestational diabetes mellitus, and its correlation was influenced by age factors. In order to control the risk of ges-tational diabetes and improve the outcome of pregnancy,it is recommended to choose an appropriate interpreg-nancy interval.
