Objective To explore the application of the standard logarithmic visual acuity chart and digital visual acuity chart in children's distant visual acuity examination. Methods Sixty children aged 4 to 12 years who underwent visual acuity examination between June 2022 and October 2022 in the department of ophthal-mology of Hubei Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were enrolled. All the children received computer optometry under non-cycloplegia refraction and underwent naked distant visual acuity examination using the two visual acuity charts(repeated measurement once each). The tested eyes were further divided into lowastigmatic eyes(n=63)and moderate astigmatic eyes(n=57)according to the results of computer optome-try.The correlation and difference of the visual acuity obtained by the two visual acuity charts were compared, and the correlation of the differences with gender, age and refractive status was determined. Results The con-sistency of repeated measurements with standard logarithmic visual acuity chart and digital visual acuity chart was 100%and 97.5%,respectively.The visual acuity obtained by the two visual acuity charts had good consis-tency(r=0.832,P<0.001),and the consistency in low astigmatic eyes was higher than that in moderate astigmatic eyes(r=0.985 and 0.653,respectively,P<0.001).The visual acuity obtained by the digital visual acuity chart was lower than that obtained by the standard logarithmic visual acuity chart, and the difference was statistically significant in all eyes(P=0.008)and in moderate astigmatic eyes(P<0.001),but not in low astigmatic eyes(P=0.841).The difference between the two visual acuity charts was positively correlated with the degree of astigmatism(r=0.827,P<0.001),but not with gender(r=-0.067,P=0.466)and age(r=0.309,P<0.001).Conclusion The results of visual acuity obtained by the two charts are stable. The standard logarithmic visual acuity chart and the digital visual acuity chart have good consistency in children with low astigmatism, but the difference between the two increases in children with medium or high astigmatism. The digital visual acuity chart is more suitable for measuring the distant visual acuity in children with moderate and high astigmatism.
