Analysis of Cylinder Exhaust Valve Cone Ablation Failure of a Marine Heavy Oil Diesel Engine
Valves are key components of engines, and the choice of their materials has a significant impact on the reliability of the en-gine.A marine heavy oil engine experienced a failure of ablation on the conical surface of the exhaust valve after approximately 2,500 hours of operation. After analysis,it was found that the performance of the nickel-based material in the exhaust valve decreased under the corrosion of sulfur-rich heavy oil fuel, resulting in ablation of the conical surface. In response to this failure, the material of the conical surface of the exhaust valve was optimized, and a surfacing treatment was carried out on the conical surface. The optimized valve was tested and verified, and the results showed that the optimized valve performed well in terms of corrosion resistance and wear resistance.
