Fault Cause Investigation of Fracture in A Double-Joint Oil Filter Component
A series of failures, including multiple cracks in the housing and cover plate of a duplex oil filter for a diesel engine,as well as repeated breakage of the double-ended studs used to secure the cover plate, were comprehensively investigated from the aspects of structural design, raw material performance, installation dimensions, and installation methods.Through analysis,it was determined that the root cause of the failures lay in the unreasonable design of the removable components of the original oil filter.During the disas-sembly process, uneven force distribution on the prying angle led to the breakage of the studs, which in turn caused a series of issues such as cracks in the installation holes of the oil filter cover and fractures in the installation studs of the oil filter housing. To address these failures, the structural design of the cover plate was improved and the grade of the double-ended studs was upgraded, thereby op-timizing the removability of the duplex oil filter and ensuring reliable operation of the diesel engine.
