Renaissance and the Chinese Style:Origin and Destiny of the National Form of Discourse in the 20th Century
Since modern times,Chinese intellectuals have always desired to speak of China's problems under the triple vi-sion of salvation, enlightenment, and rejuvenation.Corresponding to the"Chinese Renaissance"discourse of Hu Shi and others, after the 1930s,the left-wing literary circles used multiple discourses, such as"New Enlightenment,""Third Literary Revolu-tion,""Proletarian Renaissance,"and"National Form,"to reevaluate the May Fourth Literary Revolution as well as the move-ment of the popularization of literature and art,and to construct a complex structure of national renaissance in modern China. As one of the"three academic debates in modern China,"the discussion of"national form"provided a space for political discourse, popular discourse, and intellectual discourse to get involved in a polyphonic situation interacting with each other. With the lan-guage movement and the creation of national forms mutually promoting each other, the discussion of"national forms"combined the mass ideological liberation movement with the cultural liberation movement, and,on the basis of reflecting on the Euro-peanization of literature and art and absorbing multiple traditional sources of forms, promoted the historical process of"transfor-mative creativity"and the localization of Marxism in Chinese culture, and opened up the path for the organic combination of lit-erature and art revolutionization and localization of literature and art.
