Artificial Intelligence,Industrial Agglomeration Externalities and Carbon Emission in the Yangtze River Economic Belt
The Yangtze River Economic Belt is not only a highland for artificial intelligence application innovation with significant leading and driving effects, but also a leading area for green and low-carbon development.Using panel data from 108 prefecture level cities and above in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2012 to 2019,the level of arti-ficial intelligence application is measured by the installation density of industrial robots. The impact of artificial intelli-gence application on carbon emission efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt is examined from perspectives of in-dustrial agglomeration and agglomeration externalities.Research has found that artificial intelligence can help improve car-bon emission efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt;Heterogeneity analysis shows that artificial intelligence can drive the improvement of carbon emission efficiency in cities in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, but its effect on cities in the upper and middle reaches is not significant.Artificial intelligence can improve carbon emis-sion efficiency in low-carbon pilot cities, but its effect on non-low-carbon pilot cities is not significant; The analysis of impact channels shows that artificial intelligence can drive the improvement of carbon emission efficiency through industrial specialization clustering.Specifically, artificial intelligence can improve carbon emission efficiency through the knowledge spillover effect of industrial specialization clustering and the sharing effect of intermediate goods input. This suggests that artificial intelligence technology should be developed according to local conditions, and suitable industrial clusters should be strengthened to build a green and low-carbon industrial system in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
