Research progress of the mechanism of baicalin causing programmed cell death in tumors
As a vital component in traditional Chinese medicine anticancer prescriptions, the efficacy of Scutellaria baicalensis(Huangqin)has been thoroughly validated through modern pharmacological research, demonstrating not only anti-tumor and sedative-anxiolytic properties but also analgesic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory activities.Notably, baicalin, the active constituent of Huangqin, has become the focus of research both domestically and internationally in recent years due to its potent anti-tumor activity.Through reviewing relevant literatur,it has been established that baicalin exhibits remarkable therapeutic effects against liver, breast, ovarian, gastric, and various other types of cancers. Its mechanisms encompass inhibit-ing tumor cell proliferation and inducing tumor programmed cell death(PCD),such as apoptosis, pyroptosis and ferroptosis etc.PCD,as a crucial cellular biological process, plays a pervasive role in tumor initiation and progression. Thus, investigating the mechanisms underlying baicalin-induced PCD in tumor cells holds significant importance for identifying anti-tumor therapeu-tic targets. This review aims to summarize the mechanisms of baicalin-induced PCD in tumor cells, providing a reference for further research into its anti-tumor mechanisms of action.
