Study on the Relationship between Stem Characteristics and Lodging Resistance in Winter Wheat
In order to ascertain the primary factors affecting lodging resistance of drip-irrigated winter wheat during the growth process, seven wheat varieties, namely Ningdong 10,Ningdong 11,Longjian 115,Longjian 110,Dongyu 5,Dongyu 12 and Longzimai 1,were selected to analyze the differences in lodging resistance traits. The results showed that Dongyu 5 had the greatest stem mechanical strength(563.811 g)and the lowest lodging index(0.638 g)among the tested varieties, significantly differing from the others. It also had shorter and thicker basal internodes, thicker stem walls, lower plant height, and lower center of gravity, resulting in better lodging resistance. The lodging index showed a highly significant positive correlation with the center of gravity height, basal internode length, and plant height, and a highly significant negative correlation with mechanical strength, fresh and dry mass of the second internode from the base, diameter of the basal internodes, and wall thickness, with the wall thickness of the second internode showing a high correlation coefficient with the lodging index(r=-0.664).Thus,varieties with strong lodging resistance tend to have shorter plant height, shortened stem length at the basal internodes, and higher strength at the basal internodes.Among the tested wheat varieties,Dongyu 5 exhibited significantly better lodging resistance than the others.
