Comprehensive Evaluation of Agronomic Traits and Nutritional Quality of Different Forage Sorghum Cultivars in the Ningxia Agro-Pastoral Ecotone
The aim of this study was to identify sorghum varieties suitable for cultivation in the agro-pastoral ecotone of Ningxia, specifically in Yanchi County.A randomized block design was employed for the experiment.Key indicators for the comprehensive evaluation included plant height, stem diameter, chlorophyll content,dry-to-fresh weight ratio,leaf-to-stem ratio, hay yield, crude protein(CP),acid detergent fiber(ADF),neutral detergent fiber(NDF),and relative feed value(RFV)of eight different sorghum cultivars. The results demonstrated significant differences(P<0.05)among varieties in terms of plant height, stem diameter, chlorophyll content,dry-to-fresh weight ratio,leaf-to-stem ratio, hay yield, crude protein, ash content,NDF,and ADF.Specifically, the hay yields of Gaodancaoduowei and Hainiu were 26 106.66 kg/hm2 and 21 893.33 kg/hm2,respectively.Zhongke Tian438 and Sorghum Grand Prize1230 exhibited greater plant heights(274.13 cm and 232.86 cm,respectively)and thicker stems(12.52 mm and 13.12 mm,respectively),with CP values of 7.51%and 6.45%,respectively,indicating superior quality.Agronomic traits and nutritional quality were evaluated using principal component analysis and membership function analysis.Zhongke Tian 438 and Sorghum Grand Prize 1230 were identified as the best cultivars for local cultivation.
