Research Status and Development Strategies of Saline-Alkali Soil Comprehensive Utilization and Characteristic Industries in the Hetao Plain
The Hetao Plain is one of the five major saline-alkali soil concentration areas in China, located at a distinctive bend(Jiziwan)of the Yellow River, spanning Ningxia and Inner Mongolia. It is the most important irrigated agricultural area in Northwest China and a key base for high-quality agricultural products. It is also one of the potential reserve farmland areas in China.Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, significant progress has been made in the treatment of saline-alkali soils, thanks to national policies, technological support, and social involvement. However, challenges still remain in the Hetao Irrigation District, such as insufficient monitoring and diagnostic technology, poor integration of comprehensive treatment techniques with characteristic agricultural industries, and unclear strategies for collaborative management and technical development at both the watershed and field scales. This study employs literature review, field investigation, and experimental demonstration methods to examine the development routine of saline-alkali soil utilization technologies, the progress of comprehensive utilization models, and the development of characteristic agricultural industries in the Hetao Irrigation District. In the end,it proposes strategies for the comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali soils and the development of characteristic agricultural industries in the Hetao Irrigation District.
